AWAKENING THE PATH

The foundation of the journey into Toltec sorcery, inner silence and the transformation of perception.

What if the greatest obstacle to understanding reality is not what you don't know—but everything you've been conditioned to believe?

Not All Sorcery Is Magic—Some of It Is Mastery.
From Toltec knowledge and Castaneda to Zen and Yoga, Book One explores a practical path beyond belief—toward inner silence, disciplined awareness and direct experience.

WHAT THIS BOOK EXPLORES

This should replace some of the dense Overview material with something highly scannable.

BEGIN THE JOURNEY

Autobiography of a Sorcerer: Book One — Awakening the Path establishes the philosophical and practical foundations of the four-volume series.

Rather than asking the reader to adopt another belief system, it examines how perception, identity and ordinary awareness are constructed—and introduces disciplines intended to investigate them directly.

Inside Book One, explore:

  • Toltec sorcery as a discipline of perception rather than supernatural belief

  • The warrior's approach to awareness and personal transformation

  • Inner silence and the interruption of habitual thought

  • The relationship between Toltec knowledge, Zen and yogic philosophy

  • Conditioning, self-observation and the structure of ordinary perception

  • Personal power, discipline and the conservation of energy

  • The foundations needed for the deeper practices explored in Books Two and Three

NOT ANOTHER SYSTEM OF BELIEF

The central premise of Book One is simple: genuine knowledge must ultimately be tested through experience.

The sorcerer's path therefore begins not by accumulating more beliefs, but by examining the assumptions, habits and internal narratives through which we ordinarily perceive ourselves and the world.

THIS BOOK MAY BE FOR YOU IF...

You are interested in the work of Carlos Castaneda but want to explore Toltec concepts through a contemporary framework.

You are drawn to Zen, meditation, yoga, mysticism or consciousness studies and have noticed parallels between these traditions.

You question conventional explanations of identity, perception and reality.

Or perhaps you have reached the point where simply believing in spiritual ideas is no longer enough—and want to investigate consciousness through direct experience.

BOOK ONE IS THE BEGINNING

Autobiography of a Sorcerer unfolds as a progressive four-volume journey.

Confront Self-Importance, Fear and Clarity while exploring Stalking, Recapitulation, Dreaming and development of the Energy Body.

Self-Importance ✨ Enemies of Man✨ Dreaming The Energy Body

What happens when the greatest obstacle on the spiritual path turns out to be the person you believe yourself to be?

The warrior’s path eventually turns inward.

Book Two moves beyond the foundations established in Awakening the Path to examine the psychological structures that consume personal power—and the practices Toltec sorcerers used to break their hold.

WHAT THIS BOOK EXPLORES

TRANSFORM THE WAY YOU SEE YOURSELF

Autobiography of a Sorcerer: Book Two moves deeper into the psychological and perceptual disciplines of the Toltec path.

Where Book One establishes the foundations, Book Two confronts the forces that continually pull awareness back into ordinary identity.

Inside Book Two, explore:

SELF-IMPORTANCE
How the constant defence of identity, personal history and social position consumes energy and distorts perception.

STALKING
The disciplined observation of behaviour—and the deliberate interruption of habits that ordinarily operate without awareness.

FEAR & CLARITY
The first two great enemies encountered on the path of knowledge, and why overcoming one obstacle can create another.

RECAPITULATION
A method for examining personal history and loosening the emotional patterns that continue to shape the present.

DREAMING
The cultivation of awareness beyond the ordinary waking state and the exploration of attention within dreams.

THE ENERGY BODY
The Toltec conception of awareness beyond the limits of ordinary physical identity.

THE SORCERER’S PARTY & THE NAGUAL
The traditional structure surrounding advanced Toltec practice and the relationship between teacher, apprentice and knowledge.

THE MOST DIFFICULT OPPONENT IS THE SELF

The sorcerer’s struggle is not primarily against the world.

It is against the patterns through which the self continually recreates itself.

The need to be recognised.

The need to be right.

The defence of personal history.

The emotional reactions that arise when our identity is challenged.

And the constant internal narrative explaining who we are, what others have done to us, and how the world should respond.

From the Toltec perspective, Self-Importance is more than vanity or arrogance.

It is an enormous expenditure of attention.

We continually invest energy in maintaining an image of ourselves—and then defend that image as though our survival depends upon it.

Book Two examines what may become possible when that energy is gradually reclaimed.

Less defending.

Less reacting.

Less identification.

More awareness.

THE FIRST TWO ENEMIES OF KNOWLEDGE

The Toltec path describes four great enemies encountered by anyone pursuing knowledge.

Book Two examines the first two:

FEAR

Fear appears when knowledge begins challenging the structures that once made reality feel stable and predictable.

The familiar world becomes less certain.

Old assumptions are questioned.

The practitioner may retreat—not because the path has failed, but because it has begun to become real.

The challenge is not necessarily to destroy fear.

It is to continue despite it.

CLARITY

Yet overcoming fear produces another danger.

Clarity can create confidence, insight and certainty—but that certainty can itself become a trap.

The practitioner begins believing that what has been understood represents the whole truth.

Insight becomes identity.

Knowledge becomes certainty.

And certainty can become another form of Self-Importance.

Book Two explores Fear and Clarity not merely as mystical concepts, but as psychological traps that can emerge in spirituality, personal development and ordinary life.

STALKING: INTERRUPTING THE AUTOMATIC SELF

Much of human behaviour occurs automatically.

We react before examining why.

We defend ourselves before considering whether defence is necessary.

We repeat emotional patterns while believing each reaction is unique.

Toltec Stalking turns attention toward those patterns.

Rather than attempting to construct a better personality, the practitioner begins observing the existing one.

Its routines.

Its emotional triggers.

Its expectations.

Its strategies for gaining attention, approval, control or certainty.

Through this observation, something unusual can begin to happen:

Behaviour that once seemed inevitable becomes a choice.

Stalking therefore becomes more than self-analysis.

It becomes a practical method for reclaiming attention from the habits that continually consume it.

RECAPITULATION

RECLAIMING ENERGY FROM PERSONAL HISTORY

Our past does not exist only as memory.

It survives through emotional reactions, relationships, resentments, attachments and the stories we repeatedly tell ourselves about who we have become.

Toltec Recapitulation is a systematic examination of that personal history.

The objective is not to erase the past.

It is to loosen its unconscious hold over the present.

By revisiting significant experiences and relationships with deliberate awareness, the practitioner begins examining how personal history continues to shape perception.

The deeper question becomes:

How much of the person I call “myself” is simply accumulated history?

BEYOND THE ORDINARY SELF

DREAMING & THE ENERGY BODY

Book Two eventually moves from psychological transformation toward one of the most mysterious dimensions of Toltec practice:

Dreaming.

Dreaming is presented not simply as becoming lucid inside a dream.

It is a discipline of attention.

A method for investigating whether awareness can remain coherent when the ordinary structures of waking perception begin to change.

The dream becomes a laboratory for consciousness.

Instead of automatically becoming absorbed in whatever the dream presents, the practitioner attempts to maintain awareness within it.

This leads toward one of the central concepts explored throughout the book:

THE ENERGY BODY

Within Toltec sorcery, the human being is not understood solely through physical anatomy or psychological identity.

The tradition describes another dimension of awareness—the Energy Body—normally obscured by our complete absorption in ordinary perception.

Whether approached literally, psychologically, spiritually or phenomenologically, the idea raises a profound question:

Are the boundaries of consciousness really where we assume them to be?

THIS IS NOT ABOUT ESCAPING ORDINARY LIFE

The objective of these practices is not to reject the world.

Nor is it to replace ordinary reality with another belief system.

The deeper challenge is to discover how much of human experience is conditioned by habit, interpretation and identification.

Self-Importance reveals where attention is being consumed.

Stalking exposes automatic behaviour.

Recapitulation confronts the power of personal history.

Dreaming investigates awareness outside familiar perceptual conditions.

And the Energy Body pushes the investigation toward the boundaries of identity itself.

Together they form different aspects of the same inquiry:

What remains when the structures that continually reinforce the ordinary self begin to loosen?

THIS BOOK MAY BE FOR YOU IF...

You have already encountered spiritual or philosophical ideas but find yourself questioning the role of ego, identity and personal history.

You are interested in the Toltec concepts associated with Carlos Castaneda—including Self-Importance, Stalking, Dreaming and the warrior’s path—but want to explore them within a broader philosophical framework.

You are interested in lucid dreaming, meditation, consciousness or altered states of perception.

You recognise that intellectual understanding alone does not necessarily transform behaviour.

You have begun noticing how much attention is consumed by emotional reactions, social identity and the need for recognition.

Or you have begun asking a more difficult question:

How much energy do I spend every day maintaining the person I believe myself to be?

THE SORCERER’S LEXICON

A Glossary of Toltec Philosophy and a Cross-Traditional Guide to Consciousness, Awareness, and Practice

The first three books explore the journey.
Book Four gives you the map.

Toltec philosophy contains an extraordinary vocabulary of awareness—Intent, the Assemblage Point, Dreaming, Seeing, the Nagual, Recapitulation, the Second Attention and dozens of other concepts.

But understanding the words is only the beginning.

The Sorcerer’s Lexicon brings the terminology, practices and philosophical structure of Toltec sorcery together in one comprehensive reference volume—revealing how the individual concepts connect to form a much larger system of knowledge.

UNDERSTANDING THE WORDS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING

For readers of Toltec philosophy, one difficulty appears again and again.

The terminology can be familiar while the deeper relationships between the concepts remain difficult to see.

What exactly is the relationship between Intent and the Assemblage Point?

How does Inner Silence relate to Seeing?

What separates the First Attention from the Second Attention?

Where do Dreaming, Stalking, Recapitulation and Not-Doing fit within the larger path?

And how do these ideas relate to descriptions of consciousness found within Zen, yoga, Taoism and other contemplative traditions?

The Sorcerer’s Lexicon was created to bring these connections together.

Not simply as a dictionary of definitions—

but as a map of the philosophy behind them.

MORE THAN A GLOSSARY

A Reference Guide to the Architecture of Toltec Sorcery

The Sorcerer’s Lexicon examines the terminology, principles, practices and philosophical structures underlying the sorcerer’s path.

Individual entries provide clarity and context while also showing how apparently separate ideas form parts of a larger framework of awareness.

The result is a book that can be approached in two ways:

Read it as a philosophical exploration of Toltec sorcery from beginning to end.

Or—

keep it beside Books I–III and return to it whenever a concept requires deeper clarification.

It is not intended merely to tell you what a term means.

It is designed to help you understand where that term belongs within the larger map.

EXPLORE THE LANGUAGE OF THE SORCERER’S PATH

Within The Sorcerer’s Lexicon, you’ll encounter the concepts that form the language and structure of Toltec sorcery, including:

THE ASSEMBLAGE POINT
The organizing nexus through which perception is assembled and stabilized.

THE NAGUAL
That which exists beyond the ordinary structures through which human perception organizes reality.

INTENT
A fundamental principle within Toltec sorcery concerning awareness, alignment and the movement of perception.

THE LUMINOUS EGG
The energetic description of the human being found within the tradition of Toltec Seeing.

FIRST & SECOND ATTENTION
Different organizations of awareness and the movement beyond the limits of ordinary perception.

THE DREAMING BODY
The development of continuity and awareness beyond the ordinary waking identity.

SEEING
Direct perception beyond the habitual interpretations imposed by thought and conditioning.

INNER SILENCE
The progressive suspension of internal dialogue and one of the foundations of altered perception.

RECAPITULATION
A systematic examination of personal history and the recovery of awareness bound within memory and identity.

NOT-DOING
Practices designed to interrupt habitual perception and weaken the automatic structures through which reality is interpreted.

DREAMING
The disciplined cultivation of awareness beyond the ordinary waking state.

STALKING
The strategic observation and reorganization of behaviour, identity and habitual patterns of perception.

And these represent only part of the philosophical system explored throughout the Lexicon.

BEYOND INDIVIDUAL DEFINITIONS

Discover the Larger Structure Behind the Teachings

Book Four goes beyond individual terminology to examine some of the broader structures within Toltec philosophy.

THE TEN TRUTHS OF AWARENESS

A framework for examining awareness, perception and the movement toward increasingly radical states of consciousness.

THE TEACHERS OF THE SORCERER’S WAY

An exploration of the figures, influences and philosophical lineage associated with the development of the sorcerer’s path.

THE TWENTY-ONE ABSTRACT CORES

Recurring structures within the movement of Intent that provide another way of understanding the architecture underlying the sorcerer’s journey.

THE CORE DISCIPLINES

  • Dreaming.

  • Stalking.

  • Recapitulation.

  • Not-Doing.

  • nner Silence.

‍Rather than existing as isolated techniques, these disciplines interact as different methods for reorganizing attention, perception and awareness.

The deeper purpose of the Lexicon is to reveal those relationships.

‍ ‍

WHERE TOLTEC PHILOSOPHY MEETS OTHER TRADITIONS

Ancient traditions often used different languages to investigate surprisingly similar questions.

The Sorcerer’s Lexicon places Toltec philosophy within a wider comparative framework, examining connections and parallels with traditions including:

TOLTEC SORCERY
Awareness • Intent • Assemblage Point • Dreaming • Seeing

ZEN
No-mind • direct experience • emptiness • silence

YOGA
Meditation • samādhi • disciplined awareness • transformation of consciousness

TAOISM
Non-forcing • natural action • emptiness • alignment

These traditions should not simply be treated as interchangeable.

Their histories, terminology and methods differ.

But placing them beside one another can illuminate a deeper question running throughout Autobiography of a Sorcerer:

What happens when human beings stop accepting ordinary perception as the final measure of reality and begin investigating consciousness directly?

‍ ‍

NOT ANOTHER SYSTEM OF BELIEF

Toltec sorcery has often been surrounded by extraordinary claims, mythology and competing interpretations.

The Sorcerer’s Lexicon approaches the subject differently.

The emphasis is not simply on accepting a collection of metaphysical ideas.

It is on understanding the concepts precisely enough to examine what they are actually pointing toward.

What is awareness?

How is perception organized?

How much of what we call reality is interpretation?

Can habitual perception be interrupted?

What remains when the internal dialogue becomes silent?

And ultimately:

How far can awareness move beyond the conditions that normally define human experience?

The Lexicon provides a philosophical framework through which those questions can be explored.

‍ ‍

A BOOK DESIGNED TO BE RETURNED TO

Some books are read once.

The Sorcerer’s Lexicon was designed to remain beside you.

As your understanding changes, concepts that initially appeared abstract can take on very different significance.

A definition encountered before beginning Dreaming may mean something entirely different after practising it.

The Assemblage Point may initially appear theoretical.

Inner Silence may first appear to be meditation.

Recapitulation may look like psychological reflection.

Intent may seem impossible to define.

But as the larger structure becomes clearer, relationships begin to emerge.

That is why Book Four functions as both:

‍ ‍

REFERENCE
Return to individual concepts whenever clarification is needed.

CONTEXT
Understand how those concepts relate to the wider philosophical system.

COMPARISON
Explore parallels and differences across Toltec sorcery, Zen, yoga, Taoism and other approaches to consciousness.

INTEGRATION
Bring ideas encountered throughout Books I–III into a single conceptual framework.

This is not necessarily a book you finish and place back on the shelf. It is a book you return to as your understanding develops.

‍ ‍

THE SORCERER’S INTEGRATION

‍Beyond the Human Form. Beyond Ordinary Perception.

  • Energy Body

  • Assemblage Point

  • Second Attention

  • Seeing

  • Fire Within‍

Book Three enters the advanced territory of the warrior’s path—where the practices of silence, dreaming and awareness begin to converge into a radical transformation of perception.

Building upon the foundations established in Books One and Two, The Sorcerer’s Integration explores what happens when the search for knowledge moves beyond philosophy and begins to challenge the very structure through which reality is perceived.

THE PATH DOES NOT END WITH UNDERSTANDING

Eventually, awareness itself must change.

The earlier stages of the warrior’s path challenge conditioning, self-importance, fear and the assumptions through which we interpret our lives. But there comes a point where understanding is no longer enough. The question changes. It is no longer simply: How do I understand the path? It becomes: What happens when perception itself begins to move?‍ ‍

Book Three explores this deeper territory through some of the most challenging concepts within Toltec sorcery—the Assemblage Point, Energy Body, Second Attention, Seeing, Dreaming Awake and the Fire Within. The emphasis shifts from understanding transformation… to becoming capable of transformation.

ENTER THE DEEPER ARCHITECTURE OF AWARENESS

Book Three investigates six interconnected areas at the heart of the advanced sorcerer’s path.

THE ASSEMBLAGE POINT
Explore the hidden nexus through which ordinary reality is assembled—and what becomes possible when its habitual position begins to shift.

THE ENERGY BODY
Move beyond intellectual spirituality into the Toltec concept of another configuration of awareness capable of perceiving beyond the limitations of ordinary cognition.

SECOND ATTENTION
Explore modes of awareness beyond the habitual organisation of everyday consciousness and the familiar world maintained by the First Attention.

LOSING THE HUMAN FORM
Confront the deeply embedded structures of identity, history and self-reflection that maintain the familiar experience of being “you.”

SEEING
Examine the Toltec distinction between looking at the world through interpretation and perceiving beyond the ordinary descriptions imposed upon it.

THE FIRE WITHIN
Enter one of the deepest dimensions of the Toltec path—the integration and transformation of awareness beyond the boundaries of the ordinary human form.

THE ASSEMBLAGE POINT

‍What if reality feels fixed because perception is fixed?

One of the central ideas explored in Book Three is the Toltec concept of the Assemblage Point. Within the Toltec model, human beings do not passively observe a completely objective world. Perception selects, organises and assembles experience into the reality we recognise. The world appears stable because awareness repeatedly assembles it in approximately the same way. Our identity. Our memories. Our expectations. Our interpretation of other people. Even our assumptions about what is possible.

All contribute to maintaining the familiar position from which reality is perceived. Book Three explores the provocative possibility that when the habitual organisation of perception changes, the experience of reality may change with it. Through Inner Silence, Dreaming, Not-Doing and shifts of awareness, the warrior begins to loosen the perceptual fixation that ordinarily holds the human world together.

The implications are profound:

Perhaps the boundaries of reality and the boundaries of perception are more closely connected than we imagine.

THE ENERGY BODY

‍Beyond the ordinary organisation of the self.

Throughout ordinary life, enormous amounts of attention are invested in maintaining the personality. We defend our history. We rehearse our problems. We maintain our importance. We continually reinforce the internal story of who we believe ourselves to be. Toltec sorcery proposes that beneath this familiar organisation exists another possibility—the Energy Body.

Book Three explores the Energy Body not simply as a mystical idea, but as part of a wider investigation into consciousness, Dreaming, silence and the redistribution of attention. As the warrior reduces the energy consumed by self-reflection and habitual thought, awareness may become available for forms of perception normally inaccessible within everyday consciousness. The objective is not to construct a more impressive spiritual identity.

It is almost the opposite.

The ordinary identity begins to lose its absolute authority.

‍ ‍

LOSING THE HUMAN FORM

‍What remains when the story of “you” begins to loosen?

The human form is more than the physical body. Within the Toltec framework, it represents the accumulated structure of habits, emotional reactions, personal history, expectations and self-reflection through which the individual continuously recreates a familiar identity. We normally experience this identity as unquestionable.

This is who I am.‍ ‍This is what happened to me.‍ ‍This is what I believe.‍ ‍This is what I fear.‍ ‍This is what I can and cannot become. But the warrior begins to investigate whether these structures represent the whole of consciousness—or merely one highly conditioned organisation of it. Losing the Human Form therefore does not mean destroying the personality.

It means ceasing to mistake the personality for the totality of awareness.

And that distinction changes everything.

FROM INNER SILENCE TO SECOND ATTENTION

‍Where Toltec sorcery meets Zen and Yoga.

Throughout Autobiography of a Sorcerer, Toltec ideas are placed into dialogue with other contemplative traditions that have investigated consciousness through direct practice. Book Three takes this comparison considerably deeper.

TOLTEC SORCERY
Second Attention, Seeing, Dreaming and the movement of the Assemblage Point.

ZEN
No-Mind, silence and direct perception beyond conceptual interpretation.

YOGA
Samādhi and the progressive dissolution of ordinary cognitive activity.

TAOISM
Transformation, energy and the movement beyond rigid personal identity. The terminology differs. The philosophies differ. The cultures that produced them differ. Yet they repeatedly approach a remarkably similar possibility: Ordinary waking consciousness may represent only a fraction of what awareness can become. Book Three explores these parallels without demanding that they be treated as identical systems.

Instead, they become different maps pointing toward one fundamental investigation:

What happens when thought no longer dominates perception?

SEEING

‍Can perception exist before interpretation?

Ordinarily, we do not simply perceive the world. We interpret it. Almost immediately. A face becomes attractive or unattractive. A person becomes friend or enemy. An event becomes success or failure. An experience becomes desirable or threatening. Thought continuously categorises reality according to memory, conditioning and expectation.

Toltec sorcery calls this ordinary process looking. Seeing points toward something radically different. It suggests the possibility of perception in which the habitual descriptions imposed by the internal dialogue no longer dominate awareness. This is not merely a new belief about reality.

It is an attempt to change the relationship between awareness and interpretation itself.

CLARITY & POWER

‍The Second and Third Enemies of the warrior.

The path of knowledge is not presented as a simple progression toward enlightenment. Every genuine expansion of awareness creates new dangers.

CLARITY
Clarity can illuminate the path. But clarity can also convince the seeker that understanding is complete. Insight becomes certainty. Certainty becomes identity. And the warrior who once questioned everything may gradually become trapped by the conviction that he can no longer be mistaken.

POWER
Beyond Clarity lies a still greater challenge: Power. As awareness develops beyond its ordinary limits, the warrior encounters forces and possibilities that can no longer be understood merely through conventional human ambition or social authority. The danger is no longer simply ignorance.

It is becoming captivated by what has been discovered. Book Three explores why the warrior must continue beyond both Clarity and Power without allowing either to become the final destination. Because the further one travels along the path… the more subtle the traps become.‍ ‍

DREAMING AWAKE

‍When the boundaries between dreaming and waking perception begin to change.

Dreaming within Toltec sorcery is not merely lucid dreaming. It is a systematic exploration of attention. Book Three examines the progression from ordinary dreaming toward increasingly stable forms of Dreaming in which awareness itself becomes the object of investigation. At the deeper stages of the practice, the distinction between dreaming awareness and waking awareness becomes increasingly difficult to define.

This leads toward one of the most challenging questions explored throughout the series: If consciousness can assemble convincing worlds while dreaming, what exactly gives the waking world its unquestioned authority? The purpose is not to reject ordinary reality. It is to stop assuming that ordinary reality represents the full range of perception available to consciousness.

Book Three can be read independently, but readers wanting the complete progression are encouraged to begin with Book One.‍ ‍

THE FIRE WITHIN

‍The destination was never another belief system.

At the deepest level, the warrior’s path is not about accumulating spiritual knowledge. Knowledge can become another possession. Another identity. Another description of reality. The deeper challenge is transformation. The warrior gradually turns away from the endless reinforcement of the personal self and toward the direct investigation of awareness. Silence becomes more than meditation.

Dreaming becomes more than dreaming. Seeing becomes more than observation. And knowledge becomes something that must ultimately be lived. The Fire Within represents the culmination of this movement—the possibility that consciousness is far more mysterious, fluid and expansive than the ordinary human identity allows us to imagine.

Autobiography of a Sorcerer brings Toltec sorcery into dialogue with Zen, Yoga, Taoism and the wider investigation of consciousness. Book Three represents the point at which many of these strands begin to converge. The Assemblage Point. The Energy Body. Inner Silence. Dreaming. Second Attention. Seeing. Losing the Human Form.

Rather than asking the reader simply to adopt another belief system, The Sorcerer’s Integration examines these ideas as part of a wider investigation into perception and consciousness.

The question running beneath them all is deceptively simple:

What might human awareness become if it were no longer completely imprisoned by its habitual description of reality?‍ ‍

Toltec Wisdom Podcasts — Conversations on Consciousness

An AI-assisted philosophical interview series exploring consciousness, perception, sorcery, psychology, and the hidden structures of human reality.

Hosted through a combination of synthetic dialogue, digitally generated interviews, and direct commentary from author Jason Cain, this series experiments with a new form of philosophical communication — where artificial intelligence becomes both interviewer and reflective tool.

Some episodes feature AI-generated interviewers engaging Jason Cain in long-form discussions surrounding the ideas explored throughout the Autobiography of a Sorcerer book series. Other episodes are fully AI-narrated explorations, while some are direct monologues and teachings presented by Jason Cain himself.

Rather than hiding the artificial nature of the production, the series embraces it openly as part of the experiment.

The result is a hybrid format:
part philosophical discussion,
part synthetic media experiment,
and part exploration into the nature of consciousness itself.

This is not presented as doctrine or belief —
but as an open investigation into human perception and the limits of consciousness.
